County Raises Minimum Wage For Suburban Workers

The 13 democratic members of Cook County’s Board of Commissioners voted to gradually raise the county-wide minimum wage from the current $8.25 an hour up to $13 in 2020, and rising with inflation after that. "Let's get real," said Board President Toni Preckwinkle. "Who can live on eight dollars and twenty-five cents an hour?" The city of Chicago raised minimum wage to 10 dollars in 2015, ramping up to 13 over four years. A living wage calculator from MIT estimates $12.19 an hour as a living wage for a single, childless adult in Cook County.
