Some of you may remember our Chicago Public Radio Presents… Live Events Series last year.‚  Included in our ten events designed to get you out of your houses and away from either your computer or one of those crazy hand-crank radios you got as a pledge premium was the Second Annual Global Activism Expo, the Third Coast Filmless Festival, the Winter Block Party for the Chicago Hip Hop Arts…remember?‚  How it was super cool? Well, beginning September 26 with the Chicago Chef Battle (!) we will be presenting another ten and, man, this year is going to kind of blow your mind. Check out some highlights: Saturday, September 26 We kick off the new series with a Chicago Chef Battle, featuring some of the city’s favorites. With Goose Island sponsoring this year’s series, can you guess what the battle’s key ingredient will be? Beer!‚  Yeah, I assume as WBEZ listeners you probably figured that out, but you are reading the blog, so it could go either way, y’know?‚  Featuring Chef Jill Barron of Mana Food Bar, Chef Ben Sheagren of Hopleaf, and Chef Jared Van Camp of Old Town Social and hosted by Studio 312‘s Jimmy Carrane, the evening will include audience tasting and judging each chef’s entry, followed by an awarding of prizes for the winning chef. Yes - I know it would be slightly more fun to actually have the chefs get in a ring and pummel each other with loaves of sourdough, but in our version, you get to eat delicious food and get your drink on. Monday, November 16 Evolving Faith: Meaning, Ethics, and Ideas See Speaking of Faith host Krista Tippett live as she sits down with close friend and Muslim leader Eboo Patel to share how her sense of belief and non-belief in modern life has been changed. Sunday, January 17 The 2nd Annual Winter Block Party for Chicago’s Hip-Hop Arts It was so much fun, we’re doing it again!‚  Join us for a day-long celebration including works-for-sale, performance, a b-girl/b-boy battle, food, music, and much more. Saturday, April 17 The Third Annual Global Activism Expo At the UiC Forum this year, we had over 3,000 listeners come out to connect with over 100 Chicago-area global activists, all featured guests of Worldview’s Global Activism Series.‚  This year, bigger venue, MORE STUFF.‚  Free to the public, with food vendors, hands-on classes in activism, and performances- if you miss this, you’re nuts! In addition, we have the cats of Sound Opinions hosting a tour of Chess Records and a BBQ in May, the guys over at Filmspotting screening a Palm d’Ors winning film at the Gene Siskel Film Center, and the second annual Filmless Festival at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
