848: CTA Red Line Extension Could Impact Southside Residents
Community activists have long wanted the Red Line to go beyond S. 95th St.
CTA is applying for federal funding. There are five steps and the CTA is at the end of step one.
Wanda Taylor is a spokeswoman with the transit authority.
TAYLOR: And each of these five steps can take two years or even more to complete. So going through these five steps doesn't guarantee that we're going to get money for the project.
CTA officials are recommending that the Red Line extension travels adjacent to the Union Pacific Rail Line. There would be four additional stops ending at 130th Street.
Public comment and CTA board approval are needed before the first step is completed.
