Chicago Transit Authority passengers can soon use their fare cards to ride the train or drive a car. The CTA board approved a partnership with the car sharing program, I-GO. The new deal is a combination of the Chicago Card Plus and the I-GO smart card. CTA President Ron Huberman says he hopes the plan will increase transit ridership.

HUBERMAN: Research has shown that when people use car sharing versus owning a vehicle, they end up riding transit a lot more. So we thought it’s very synergistic with our own mission of getting people out of cars and onto using transit.

The new card will be available later this year, and more I-GO car stations will be set up at train stops. The CTA will foot the bill for the $49,000 experimental program.
