The Chicago Cubs have introduced Jed Hoyer as the team’s new general manager. Hoyer leaves his GM position with the San Diego Padres after two years. Before that, Hoyer worked with the new Cubs President in Boston helping to bring the Red Sox two World Series victories.

“Winning a championship that transformed a region is not something I’ll ever forget, and not something that these guys would forget either. It’s a rare chance to do something special in this city to win a title that does transform a fan base and transform a region,” Hoyer said of joining the Cubs.

Cubs President Theo Epstein is also bringing another former Red Sox co-worker to Chicago. Jason McLeod will be the Cubs’ senior vice president of scouting and player development. He’s leaving his assistant GM position with the San Diego Padres.

The Cubs haven’t won a World Series in more than 100 years. The ex-Red Sox trio is hoping to break that drought like they did in Boston.

As for the future of Cubs manager Mike Quade, Epstein said a decision could be made within a week. 

“Mike is clearly a good baseball guy. We have a lot to process,” Epstein said.
