Chicago Police are cracking down on curfew violators - or rather, their parents.

Legal guardians will be fined if their kids are involved in a crime while violating the curfew.

Police Superintendent Phil Cline says police have cited 33 parents since they started enforcing the new rule last week.

“The idea is that we want to put a little more teeth in the curfew law,” he says. “That if their child is out committing a crime, they should be responsible for that child.”

And that responsibility will cost ticketed parents up to $500.

Previously, fines were only pinned on parents whose kids who got caught breaking curfew three times.

Curfew hours begin at 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 on Friday and Saturday.

The curfew applies to children 16-years-old and younger.
