1. Spotted: Sienna Miller at Chinglish last night with an unidentified man. It appears that she’s in Chicago working on the independent film Just Like a Woman, in which she plays a Chicago housewife who travels to Las Vegas to be in a belly dancing competition. Miller herself is no stranger to the stage, though her work has largely been confined to her native Britain; she was most recently seen in Flare Path, in a performance that was reviewed far better than her take on the role of Celia in As You Like It. Miller made her Broadway debut, however, in After Miss Julie in 2009. Of her performance, Times critic Ben Brantley said, “Ms. Miller registers as a healthy, sane young woman with good diction, good posture and great legs. Commendable as these attributes are, they are of limited use in portraying a tautly wound, death-courting neurotic who is eaten alive by her own demons.”

Update: It appears said undentified man was in fact British actor Tom Sturridge, also of the acting profession, who was told by an older gentleman, “You look like you’re going through your Kerouac phase, what with the beard and the flannel shirt. It’s all right, we all go through at some point.”

2. The Paramount Theatre in Aurora has announced that they have signed up 9,400 subscribers for their first Broadway Subscription Series last March. As previously reported, this is the first year they’re doing for Broadway shows that are all self-produced in house. A ticket to all four shows is $70, which the Theater is billing as equal to the cost of one Loop production.

3. Teatro Vista has had a particularly exciting year; they’ve been nominated for a variety of awards, and gifted with generally positive reviews  for their productions of Freedom, NY and El Nogalar, and they’re planning to celebrate it with a 21st birthday celebration on July 30 at the National Museum of Mexican Art. A ticket will grant you a preview of their 2011-12 season as well as access to the museum exhibits.

4. We’re right in the middle of the run of The Hobo Robo New Comedy Festival 3: Hobos in Space, which started Monday, and continues through Wednesday night. Their Summer Sci-Fi comedy series is made up of 10 minute comedy shorts at the Oracle Theatre, which will be performed in competition with each other. The winning piece is decided by the audience, and the writer and director of said production will get $100.

5. Though the courts usually deliver the real life theater we seem to crave, when the Blagojevich verdict came down yesterday, the theatrics were unfortunately few and far between. The reactions of Illinois politicians were the only real entertainment; many used the occasion to throw barbs at one another. The Governor is expected to appeal the conviction, so luckily we have years more to watch as this all continues to drag out.
