Chicago Mayor Richard Daley is defending an alderman who reportedly made a request to get his daughter into a top-notch city high school.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Ald. Ricardo Munoz (22nd) requested his daughter be accepted to Whitney Young Magnet High School, where her brother was enrolled.

Munoz also reportedly made requests on behalf of some constituents.

Daley says the alderman was simply acting as a public servant.

DALEY: That alone doesn’t make it wrong. He’s realizing [that] the education of, not only [of] his only children, but children in the community is important.

The admissions practices of Chicago’s elite public schools, such as Whitney Young, are currently the subject of a federal investigation.

The president of the Chicago Board of Education has been subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury on the matter.
