Chicago Mayor Richard Daley said he’s considering options to turn the former Michael Reese hospital site into a technology park.

An advisory panel will recommend ways to bring tech-based industries to the site on Chicago’s South Side.

Daley said the project will extend beyond his mayoral term. He said he hopes to have a plan in place before he leaves office.

“We think we can come back in a few months and come up with recommendations and be able to move this for the next mayor as well,” Daley said. “And the idea, having people move this, it isn’t just a mayoral thing. It’s both a  business, the business community, non-for-profit and academic community moving this forward.”

Daley said a technology park will bring in more money.

The city bought the Michael Reese property in 2009. It planned to turn the campus into an Olympic village, but Chicago did not win the 2016 Summer Games.

The city has demolished most of the hospital’s structure.
