Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says the Cook County Board doesn’t need an interim president.

Board President John Stroger hasn’t been seen publicly since his stroke three months ago. Since then, a number of politicians have voiced their interest in filling the position.

But Daley says the job’s not available.

“Oh, everybody would like to be it. Let’s be realistic. Every county board commissioner would like to be it. John Stroger is president of the county board today whether you like it or not,” he says.

Daley says the Stroger family will make a statement about his political future when it’s ready.

The Cook County Board is expected to consider a resolution on June 20, calling for an interim president.
