A flap continues in the Cook County Democratic Party over who’s going to replace outgoing Sheriff Michael Sheahan.

Sheahan informed party leaders Monday that he plans to call it quits. That late decision has left the party scrambling to find a candidate.

Sheahan is pushing for his Chief of Staff, Tom Dart, to succeed him.

Powerful Committeeman and Chicago Ald. Ed Burke says Dart will probably get the party’s support.

But Cady Gibbons says it’s too early to tell who the party will endorse. She’s executive director of the Cook County Democratic Party.

Gibbons says some candidates haven’t had time to talk with their families about whether to run for an office that’s prone to scandal.

She says the endorsement committee will decide who to support after hearing from all the candidates at its meeting on Monday.
