Something completely unexpected happened in Springfield today- the impeachment trial of Governor Blagojevich started up at noon and took a recess around 12:40!
We were broadcasting the trial live via Illinois Public Radio and it seems they were blindsided by the quick hour-long recess- wrapping up their anchored coverage immediately. That called for some quick thinking on the part of Program Director Steve Edwards and Managing Editor Sally Eisele for how fill the soon-to-be-dead airwaves. Their solution- send veteran reporter and current Arts Editor Tony Sarabia into the studio to talk about the proceedings with Criminal Justice Reporter Rob Wildeboer.
I jumped into the studio just before they cut to a montage of Blago's recent media appearances. Watch and listen here to learn how live radio is done off-the-cuff.
