With its cutting-edge curatorial insight into the world of contemporary art, Dokumenta has emerged as arguably one of the most important art events of our day - increasing in popularity with each five-year exhibition since 1955. This year it drew over 754,000 visitors - more than 1/3 coming from abroad to Kassel, Germany for the show.

Why is Dokumenta only a small blip on the radar screen of the American media? What criteria do American art writers use to evaluate what’s hot and what’s not? In contrast, what does the European media look for and what are such landmark art events looking to project? And, perhaps most importantly, what does this show bring to its audience and what does the public think of all this popular contemporary art show?

Hear about these and other issues concerning contemporary art criticism on both sides of the Atlantic with Ulrich Schötker, Michelle Grabner, and Mary Jane Jacob.

Recorded Monday, October 22, 2007 at Goethe-Institut Chicago.
