With its cutting-edge curatorial insight into the world of contemporary art, Dokumenta has emerged as arguably one of the most important art events of our day - increasing in popularity with each five-year exhibition since 1955. This year it drew over 754,000 visitors - more than 1/3 coming from abroad to Kassel, Germany for the show.

Why is Dokumenta only a small blip on the radar screen of the American media? What criteria do American art writers use to evaluate what’s hot and what’s not?
