Founded in Chicago more than 70 years ago by John Johnson, the iconic magazines Ebony and Jet documented black life in the United States when others refused.

Now the publications will belong to the Austin Texas private equity firm Clear View Group. There are no plans to move the magazine from its Chicago headquarters. Johnson’s daughter Linda Rice Johnson will be chairman emeritus on the board of the new company.

Hermene Hartman publishes N’Digo magazine covering Chicago’s African American community. She says moving to infuse more money into the company is a good one.
