Emanuel concerned about conventions

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he's concerned another convention is leaving Chicago. The Car Care World Expo recently announced it would hold its 2012 convention in Las Vegas after having planned to hold the event at McCormick Place.

New regulations at McCormick Place were meant to lower labor costs for the conventions, but those changes are on hold because of a pending challenge in court.

Emanuel said he met with McCormick Place officials Tuesday morning about Car Care's announcement.

"We have to stay competitive and it is my determination that we as a city will stay competitive and I will not lose - I don't - as you know by now, I don't like losing. I'm about winning and the City of Chicago is about winning."

Emanuel said the new regulations meant to draw more conventions to Chicago are a good idea. He said it's not worth re-writing the agreement at this point, but if costs are too high conventions will continue to leave Chicago.
