Chicago Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel has named business executive Mark Angelson as his deputy mayor. Angelson has led major companies like RR Donnelley, and for an annual salary of $1, he’ll lead a new economic council that Emanuel says will help find the city $75 million in savings from the current budget.

“I expect Mark and the council to draw up a city budget that looks very different from what we’ve seen before. It will incorporate new ideas for savings, new ways to encourage economic growth, and a new attitude towards public funds,” Emanuel said.

While Emanuel champions new approaches to budget cuts, he wouldn’t rule out mandatory furlough days, something the outgoing Daley administration has said was instrumental in balancing the budget.

Other financial team appointees include Lois Scott as Chief Financial Officer, Alexandra Holt as Budget Director, Amer Ahmad as Comptroller and John Tolva as the Chief Technology Officer.
