Rahm Emanuel’s wife will not have to testify in the hearings over whether Emanuel is eligible to run for Chicago mayor. Some objectors to Emanuel’s candidacy submitted subpoenas to hear testimony from Amy Rule, Emanuel’s wife. But most of those requests were abruptly withdrawn Thursday.

Objectors argue Emanuel is ineligible to be on the February ballot because he lived in Washington, D.C. while working in the White House.

Testifying on Emanuel’s behalf Thursday was Paul Levy, Emanuel’s friend. Levy said the family renting Emanuel’s North Side home wanted $100,000 to move out before their lease is up.

“Rahm said, ‘That’s ridiculous. I’m not going to do that,’” Levy said.

Emanuel offered $5,000 for each month left on the lease, but that was not accepted. Levy also said the Emanuel family stored plates in the crawlspace at the North Side home - proof they planned to move back to that home one day.
