Exhibit explores the incarceration of blacks in America

A new exhibit that opens today in Chicago explores why nearly a million African-Americans are imprisoned across the nation.

The show at the University of Illinois at Chicago is called "Black/Inside: A History of Captivity & Confinement in the United States."

It traces the roots of the prison system, from the days of slavery, through the Civil Rights Movement, and continuing right up until today.

WBEZ’s Richard Steele took a tour.
