Eight Forty-Eight wondered if the experience of the McGriff family, featured in WBEZ’s Erica Hunter’s report for Out of the Shadows, was an anomaly – or a typical scenario. To learn more, Eight Forty-Eight turned to two experts in special education and rights for mentally ill children: Micki Moran is a founding partner of the Child and Family Law Center of the North Shore in Highland Park and Richard Smith, the chief officer of the Office of Special Education and Supports for Chicago Public Schools. They took comments and questions from listeners about general topics regarding public school systems.

The number to call is 312-923-9239, e-mail 848@wbez.org or tweet @848.

Since listeners had plenty of questions for these experts, the Out of the Shadows team will take the conversation to the web. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, they’ll  open up a live online chat.
