On Wednesday, FIFA — soccer’s world governing body — re-elected Sepp Blatter to his fourth term as president. The Swiss official’s 13-year tenure has been marred by allegations of widespread corruption, including suspicions surrounding Qatar’s winning bid for the 2022 World Cup.
Despite the swirling rumors, Blatter ran unopposed because his sole challenger — an executive committee member from Qatar, no less — was forced to bow out amid bribery allegations.
