Some neighbors of the old Finkl Steel site on Chicago’s north side are worried about condos being built where the plant once stood.
Ald. Brian Hopkins wants to change the zoning around the now-demolished plant in Lincoln Park so the land can be used for more than just manufacturing. It would be the first time the city removes what’s called a “planned manufacturing district” designation.
But Mike Hozler, with North Branch Works, worries that one zoning change will be just the “tip of the iceberg,” and the city should instead focus on maintaining districts with investment in business and jobs.
Hopkins will still need the council’s approval, but he says the mayor’s office will be behind him.
