Former aldermen explain what newly appointed city council members can expect

As new and returning aldermen prepare to take their seats on the council, they could probably use some words of advice. Our next guests are well suited to do just that – familiar as they are with the City Council. Mary Ann Smith has presided over the 48th ward of Chicago for 22 years. She announced her retirement last year. Marty Oberman served as alderman of Chicago’s 43rd ward for 12 years.

And, Chicago News Cooperative's Hunter Clauss joined the conversation to discuss which aldermen might stand out and for what. Who on the Council is most likely to succeed? Who could be the consensus builder? Or Rahm Emanuel’s insider?
