Yesterday it was announced that Ireland’s John Ging, would resign his post as Head of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Gaza, the agency that helps Palestinian refugees in various locations throughout the Middle East. Ging had been at the helm for five years. He led UNRWA through Israel’s Operation cast lead two years ago.

Ging survived two assassination attempts from armed groups in Gaza. He’d voiced criticism of both Israel and Hamas and served as a strong advocate for the Palestinians he served.  Ging moves on to new posting in Humanistarian Affairs at UN headquarter in New York.
