Former NBA player fights paralysis with an old Chicago teammate by his side

On the popular television show “Glee,” Artie, who’s bound to a wheelchair, was given the gift of mobility through a bionic implement called a ReWalk. The ReWalk isn’t just part of a fantastical plot line, Chicagoans too can access the walking-assistance technology.

One potential and notable candidate is former NBA player Mike Williams. Just over a year ago, Mike was working as a security guard at a nightclub in Atlanta when he was shot eight times.

While undergoing treatment he reconnected with his old friend Daniel Ivankovich, aka “The Right Reverend Doctor D.” He’s an orthopedic surgeon with the Bone Squad in Chicago. Doctor D hopes technology like the ReWalk might be part of Mike’s future.

“Eight Forty-Eight” recently met with the two of them at the Glencrest Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Ivankovich started by explaining how they first met, back in the day.
