Human rights observers say they’re worried about the safety of Jalilal al-Salman, a former official with the Bahrain Teacher’s Association. She was arrested before dawn Wednesday morning. Her arrest came after claiming she was abused during her incarceration in March.
Last month, al-Salman was convicted on charges that included the attempted overthrow of the Bahrain government. Although she is a civilian, her trial was in a military court. She was sentenced to three years in prison. Her appeal is due to be heard in civilian court on December 1.
