The founder of a Chicago charter school network for young men says he might join the crowded field of those vying to become mayor of Chicago.

Earlier this year, Tim King made national headlines when all the graduates of his Urban Prep Academy high school were accepted to at least one four-year college. King says he doesn’t think that success has to be unique to Urban Prep.

KING: And any school can do that. Any school can have that level of commitment, can have that vision, can have that goal.

King says he thinks his experience as an educator would help the city.

He says he’s been talking about the mayoral race with political consultant Delmarie Cobb, who works with US Sen. Roland Burris.

King comes from a family of educators. His mother was a Chicago Public Schools teacher then vice president of one of Chicago’s City Colleges.

King says he’s not currently circulating signature petitions.
