Friday Foodie Forecast: Holiday celebrations
With the winter chill and the holidays approaching, there's no better way to celebrate than with food, desserts and booze. So light up your menorah and go out on the town for the Chanukah pub crawl, or indulge in special sweets at Logan Square's Christmas Market. And don't forget about the foodie holiday, Terra Madre Day, which honors local, sustainable and quality produce.
Logan Square Christmas Market
Treat yourself to some holiday sweets at Logan Square's Christmas Market, which will run on Saturday, December 11 and Sunday, December 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Logan Square Kitchen, 2333 N. Milwaukee Ave. The market will feature everything from pastries and cakes to decorated cookies and ice creams from the city's top local, small-batch artisans. In addition, many special gift items, such as cookie decorating kits, preserves and bouche de noel will be on sale. Admission is a whopping $1 for adults and free for children. Guests are encouraged to RSVP here to help vendors estimate production.
8 Bars of Chanukah Pub Crawl
Who needs latkes when you can get lit at eight different bars tomorrow in honor of the Festival of Lights? The crawl starts at 2 p.m. at Pippin's Tavern, 806 Rush St., and lasts until 10 p.m. Tickets for the event are $25 and include an event t-shirt and $3 beers and $4 well drinks at every bar. Participants can pick up their t-shirts and wristbands any day before the event at Pippin's between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. up until the end of the event on December 4. The event, which starts at 1 p.m. on December 10, will include an introduction to the preSERVE garden project, a garden tour and an education on Slow Food International's extensive garden project in Africa. If weather permits, participants will also get a chance to plant garlic in the garden. Tickets to this event are free, but space is limited to 30 participants.
