On Friday’s Afternoon Shift we look at belief and a number of things that people believe.

First- do you believe in magic? The Brooklyn-based band Here We Go Magic do. They’ve been the beneficiaries of a number of magical coincidences- the latest being picking up John Waters hitchhiking in Ohio. They talk about that, working with Nigel Godrich and perform some songs.

Can what you believe change your perception of reality? Our guest Eli Finkel thinks that may be at play in John Edwards’ spectacular fall from grace.

Chicago Magazine’s Carol Felsenthal and NPR’s Cheryl Corley share the stories they believe are most significant this week in The 3@3.

Everyone but the Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey believes in the weekend (“What is a weekend?”). Alison Cuddy is on the show to reaffirm our faith.

Finally, in honor of Memorial Day we talk with two veterans- one from the Iraq war and one from World War II.
