We begin our Justice After Conflict series with a look at the first international court system after a conflict. The Nuremberg Trials were held in Germany between 1945 and 1946 to try Nazi leaders.

Ben Ferencz was a chief prosecutor in the Nuremberg Trials. He prosecuted the Einsatzgruppen Case when he was 27 years old. The case convicted 22 men with murdering over a million people. After Nuremberg, Ben dedicated his life to promoting the rule of law over the rule of war. He lobbied international governments for many years to create the International Criminal Court and he is the author of many books on international justice including the two-volume Enforcing International Law: A Way to World Peace.
