The city of Gary is feuding with a wealthy developer and millions of dollars are at stake. Gary Mayor Rudy Clay says he’s trying to iron out a dispute with Don Barden, owner of two casino boats that generate millions of dollars in revenue for Gary.

Former Gary Mayor Scott King entered into a deal with Barden in November that jeopardizes some of that money.

Mayor Clay says the deal didn’t go through the necessary steps.

“Right now it’s on hold as it relates to the $1 million contract that was signed by the former mayor without going past the city council or the board of works, I might add, and that’s not proper or kosher for the community,” Clay says.

King resigned as Gary mayor two months ago and is now working as a consultant to the casino owner.

Clay says he thinks it’s unethical that King took the job so soon after leaving office.
