Dubbed “the conscience of the food movement” by Time magazine, Gene Baur is co-founder and president of Farm Sanctuary, the leading farm animal protection organization in the country. Since 1986, his organization has been instrumental in passing the first U.S. laws to prohibit cruel farming practices and providing sanctuary for animals in need. His book Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food encourages readers to go from meat consumers to animal activists.

Gene will be in Chicago for his organization’s annual fundraising and awareness event, “Walk for Farm Animals,” which will take place September 10 in Lincoln Park. He joins us to talk about our relationship with the food we eat.
