80 percent of diseases in India are water-borne,  so when a town’s water supply becomes polluted, the health of all its inhabitants is at stake.              

Prakash Tata is an environmental scientist.  He is the former director of the Environmental Monitoring and Research Division of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. 

He is originally from Vizianagaram in the Indian state of Andra Pradesh.  After he retired from his job at the Water Reclamation District, he went back to his hometown and helped clean up the Pedda Cheruvu lake there.
