We talk to a lot of grassroots activists, but today we’re going to talk to the founder of an organization that’s training activists all around the globe.

Karen Egerer is the founder of Heartland International.

Her organization implements political, economic and social development projects and try to use the resources of the Midwest to support democratic institutions, offer training for microenterprises and strengthen the role of women.

They have some opportunities coming up if you’re interested in hosting some of the people they are bring to Chicago for training.

In May, there are some educators and community leaders coming from Indonesia. And in June, they are having some human rights activists come in from Kazakhstan.

You can suggest someone you think we should include in the series by e-mailing worldview@chicagopublicradio.org, put “Global Activism” in the subject line.

The work of Heartland International was suggested by Bev Hmurovic, Senior Project Director at Heartland International.

The organization has worked with activists from places as diverse as Belarus and Namibia.
