Global Notes: Chinese Rock 20 Years after Tiananmen Square

The music of Sway Jen, the godfather of Chinese rock, gave students at Tiananmen Square their rallying cry. Twenty years ago today, Chinese tanks rolled into central Beijing, killing hundreds of civilians, mostly students, calling for democratic reforms. Radio M and mid-day host Tony Sarabia looks at how Chinese music changed in the 20 years since the Tiananmen Square massacre. Matthew Corbin Clark is founder of Atlantic-Asia Productions and former manager of father of Chinese Rock Cui Jian. He explains what the Chinese music world looked like 20 years ago.
