Mento is a style of Jamaican music that predates and has heavily influenced ska and reggae. The Jolly Boys is a mento band from Port Antonio, Jamaica that has been playing these folksy Jamaican tunes since 1955.

The band just released their new album Great Expectation that does mento covers of rock classics. On this week’s Global Notes, Jerome and Radio M host Tony Sarabia take a look at versions of pop and rock hits like “Rehab,” the song made famous by the late Amy Whinehouse.
