Illinois Governor Pat Quinn’s been throwing around the “reform” word since taking office last week. And good government advocates have been quick to recommend what that reform agenda should include.

Pat Quinn can count his days as governor on one hand. But Cindi Canary with the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform already has a to-do list for the new chief exec and the lawmakers he’ll work with.

CANARY: Job number one is looking at limiting money in politics.

Canary says the potential for abuse of power should be clear after the impeachment trial, and that lawmakers should unite behind campaign finance legislation. She names House Bill 24, sponsored by Democrat Harry Osterman of Chicago. Among other provisions, the bill would set campaign contribution limits for individuals, businesses, and political action committees. Illinois has virtually no limit on who can contribute to a political campaign, or on the amount of a contribution.
