Investigators are combing a wooded area on the northeast side of Hammond, Indiana today trying to find clues to the latest shooting of a vehicle.

Shortly after 7 this morning, Wendell Turpin was driving south on Cline Avenue in Hammond.

Suddenly, the 57-year-old Turpin, who lives in Whiting, says there was a popping sound, followed by the shattering of the rear window of his 1999 Cadillac.

Turpin was not injured in the shooting, which is now the 8th such incident involving motorist over the past 10 days.

The Lake County sheriff’s department is increasing patrols in the area and is urging motorists to stay alert for suspicious activities.

All of the shootings have occurred within a five mile radius of Cline Avenue, just a few miles south of the Lake Michigan casino boats, steel mills and the Indiana Toll Road.

Investigators have dubbed the area the Cline Avenue triangle.
