We all would love a little break from high prices these days. ‚ It seems like several local restaurants are trying to lure diners in with early bird or happy hour specials. Elate, located inside the Hotel Felix in River North, is probably going further than anyone, in terms of offering some of the best deals. From 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. each weekday, you can get one of several hearty options for just $3 (provided you buy a drink). Their marinated and grilled chicken sandwich is doused in homemade tzatziki sauce, garnished with red onions; a hefty burger gets a crown of creamed leeks and a barbeque chicken pizza with asiago and BBQ sauce is crunchy, chewy and mildly satisfying. These dishes aren’t necessarily on their regular menu - in fact, Elate’s dinner menu is so ambitious, these pedestrian sandwiches, pizzas and fries are almost an insult to the kitchen - but they serve a purpose: get butts in seats, even if it’s at the bar, and get them exposed to the space, so that they might come back another time and drop some real coin.
