The head of the Chicago Housing Authority is stepping down at the end of the month.

Sharon Gist Gilliam is resigning from the agency after only a year as CEO. She’s served on the board since 1999 when Mayor Richard Daley appointed her.

CHA officials declined to comment on why she’s leaving. A replacement has not been named. Gist Gilliam has been on board since the inception of the CHA Plan for Transformation.

The controversial plan, which is behind schedule, has torn down public housing high rises to create mixed-income communities. Many current and former public housing residents have complained that the plan has displaced them. That often put Gist Gilliam in the hot seat.

She’s also principal at UCG Associates, a management consulting firm, and she formerly served under Mayor Harold Washington.
