Ousted Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White has been sentenced to a year of home detention on charges related to voter fraud.

A Hamilton County, Ind., jury found White guilty of six felonies on Feb. 4. He was sentenced Thursday on the charges including false registration, voting in another precinct, submitting a false ballot, theft and two counts of perjury.

Prosecutors said White listed his ex-wife’s address instead of a condo he had with his then-fiancee on his voter-registration form because he didn’t want to give up his Fishers Town Council salary after moving out of that district.

White has said he stayed at his ex-wife’s house when he wasn’t on the road campaigning and did not live in the condo until after he remarried.

He is expected to appeal.

In court, White said he didn’t intentionally set out to do the things he was found guilty of. He didn’t speak following the hearing.

Hamilton County Prosecutor John Dowd didn’t see a remorseful White in court.

“In my opinion, based on what I saw and heard, I saw nothing that suggested to me that he ever accepted responsibility for his conduct or his actions,” Dowd said.

The issue now is whether Vop Osili will be sworn in as Indiana secretary of state. Osili is a Democrat whom White beat handily in the general election in 2010.

Upon White’s conviction, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels appointed White’s chief deputy as interim secretary of state.

The Indiana Democratic Party is trying to get Osili sworn in, instead. A judge earlier ordered Osili to fill the post, but that was put on hold pending the outcome of White’s sentencing.
