Last month film contributor Milos Stehlik began the occasional series Images, Movies and Race. It’s an examiniation of the history and impact of bigotry in media, entertainment and advertising.
Dorene Wiese is a Native American filmmaker, historian and president of the American Indian Association of Illinois. She told Milos that the media’s depiction of Native Americans has influenced US policy toward indigenous peoples.
Dorene was part of a screening and panel discussion on the film Reel Injun: On the Trail of the Hollywood Indian on 10/16/10 in Chicago.
