Listen in to a conversation about immigration, dispossession, and global citizenship. Nobel Laureate and peace activist Jody Williams is joined by Cook County Commissioner and human rights activist Jesus “Chuy” Garcia. Both are passionate voices for local, national, and global peace and justice efforts.

This discussion addresses the connection between immigrants’ rights, human rights, and displacement in war-torn countries. Mobility, containment, and global citizenship will frame the immigration/human rights conversation.

Jesús “Chuy” García was the first Mexican-American elected to the Illinois State Senate. A founding Executive Director of “Enlace Chicago” and on the board of the Latino Policy Forum, he is an outspoken advocate for social justice, immigrant rights, and human rights.

Peace activist Jody Williams received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 for her work to ban landmines and has been a life-long advocate of freedom, self-determination, and human and civil rights. She currently chairs the Nobel Women’s Initiative, which supports and amplifies women working for sustainable peace with justice and equality.
