Members of the Chicago Fire Department gathered Tuesday to remember firefighter Edward Stringer. He died last week when a roof collapsed on him. At Stringer’s funeral, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley said people like Stringer keep the city running.
“Without him, his brothers and sisters in the fire department, our city could not function.” Daley said. “His death and his service for all Chicagoans was a selfless act and a tragedy and loss for the entire city.”
Firefighter Corey Ankum also died in the fire. Funeral services for Ankum are scheduled for later this week.
