Online dating services in Illinois might soon be required to tell users if they do background checks. The new proposal would also require companies to post safety tips on the company website, including warnings about identity theft. State Sen. Ira Silverstein introduced the bill.

“Companies doing business in Illionis, they should at least inform the consumer what they are doing and what they are not doing. I know these groups provide a lot of good services. I just think this is more of a consumer protection bill,” Silverstein said.

A similar bill has been introduced in the Illinois House.
