Illinois Republicans ponder redistricting

By Tony ArnoldIllinois legislators are waiting for new census data before they begin the process of drawing new legislative districts. New lines are drawn every 10 years to determine district boundaries.
Census data shows Illinois will lose one seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Republican Rep. Aaron Schock said that may make things more difficult for downstate representatives.
“If you look at some of the districts in the State of Illinois, I would suggest that it’s very difficult for a member to come home on the weekend and travel to 20 or 30 counties and serve its district well,” he said.
Democrats control the state legislature, so they will control the redistricting process. Schock said he hopes politics does not play a factor in drawing the new districts.
