As President Obama begins his second term in office, some immigrant rights groups in Chicago hope immigration reform is high on his agenda.

Joel Camacho said Latinos helped re-elect the president.

“We want him to remember, you know, he got our votes and we want him to make sure he don’t forget about what he promised, you know, to the people,” he said.

Camacho said he knows the economy is important, but immigration reform needs to be high on the president’s To Do list.

Camacho was one of a few hundred people who rallied in downtown Chicago Monday while a giant T-V screen across the street showed President Obama deliver his inaugural speech.

When Rev. Jose Landaverde took the megaphone, he had harsh words for the president, saying Obama has violated basic human rights for deporting millions of people.

“Today, Dr. Martin Luther King would be very sad if you see what Obama is doing to our communities,” Landaverde said.

Landaverde said he wants the federal government to not just address immigration reform, but put a moratorium on deportations.
