In Mexico, a Fandango is a party where anyone can join in the music and dancing. Every month in a Pilsen gallery, people come together for a Fandango that lasts until the wee hours of the morning.

Tonight on Radio M, producer Catalina Maria Johnson explores the roots of the Fandango and its future. You’ll also hear some of the  performances that take place at Pilsen’s Colibri Gallery. It’s part of our Chicago Matters: Beyond Borders series.

When summer is long gone and the bitter winds of Chicago’s winters are blowing, we’ll all be remembering the great summertime outdoor music concerts.

One of those is the annual Old Town School of Folk Music Folk and Roots Festival in Welles Park.

Radio M was there rolling tape and tonight we preview of the four bands that played Sunday, including Forro in the Dark and Chicago’s Sones de Mexico.

Radio M will air all four of the band’s sets in their entirety as part of a special “From The Stage” in early 2008.
