Nine people have been charged with defrauding the Chicago Housing Authority in separate investigations. According to CHA Inspector General Elissa Rhee-Lee, the alleged schemes and defendants are unrelated to each other, but many of the cases involved people who collected unreported income. In some instances, individuals collected housing voucher payments as landlords and as tenants in their own buildings, against CHA rules. Rhee-Lee estimates the CHA was defrauded by 800 thousand dollars.
