The Modern Wing is the Art Institute’s largest addition since the construction of the 1893 Michigan Avenue building. A third of the size of the current building, the new wing also creates an important contemporary identity for the museum in addition to significantly increasing its size. Meredith Mack discusses architect Renzo Piano’s design of the Modern Wing, the building’s architectural features and what visitors can expect to see when the wing opens in May 2009.

Recorded Wednesday, April 08, 2009 at Chicago Architecture Foundation.
