Jazz masters Mike Reed and Roscoe Mitchell celebrate 45 years of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians
Drummer and composer Mike Reed is a legend in the making. Reed’s a key member of our world-renowned improvisational music scene. He’s also the force behind a number of events in Chicago – the Umbrella Music Festival, the Downtown Sounds series, and Pitchfork. He’s currently vice-chairman of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians.
Multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator Roscoe Mitchell is already a legend, not least for being one of the founders of the AACM.
Reed and Mitchell came to our studios to talk about the AACM’s 45th anniversary celebrations. Reed began by describing Mitchell’s influence on his band Loose Assembly. He also explained how Mitchell wound up playing on the band’s latest album, "Empathetic Parts"
